Ladies, are you looking to find a swimsuit with the perfect fit for your physique? Finding a swimsuit that makes you feel like a chic superstar can definitely be a challenge. Thankfully, swimsuit shopping doesn’t have to be agonizing.

In this post, we’ll look at what you should consider when shopping for a swimsuit that fits perfectly. By the end of this article, you’ll know exactly what to look the next time you go swimsuit shopping. Let’s talk about the perfect fitting swimsuit.

Finding the right fit
Swimwear needs to have two attributes: fashion and function. The right fit is all about how comfortable you are with your body. Remember, confidence is key!

The right fit comes down to what a woman is comfortable wearing. Choose a swimsuit that makes you feel confident and comfortable. When shopping for swimwear you want to feel great.

Body type
One thing to consider when buying a swimsuit is your body type. Pick a swimsuit that highlights your favorite assets and accentuates your curves.

Are you body conscious or have certain areas you’d like to cover up? Try a one piece. These suits are a universal style that flatters all figures.

In an article entitled “This Is Exactly How to Find a Swimsuit That Fits Perfectly“, Associate Editor of Who What Wear, Lauren Eggertsen chatted with Maria Dobrzanska Reeves, designer of Marysia Swimwear about her tips on what to look for when shopping for the perfect swimsuit. Maria had a trunk show where a woman who was about 80 years old tried on a one piece and looked fabulous. Later on that day, a young curvy girl tried on that same suit and looked fabulous as well, which is proof that one piece suits fit all body types.

Show off your best assets with colors, embellishments, and prints.

Downplay with darker solids.

A slim or athletic figure is one low on curves so the best suit for a thin frame is one that will create the illusion of curves. Brazilian bottoms, Monokinis, padded and push up tops, and embellishments such as ruffles and bold colors will add volume to your shape.

For plus size women, you want a suit with defined cuts to create a well-shaped figure. Avoid horizontal stripes along the waistline. A one piece suit that draws in your waist, giving the optical illusion of a slimmer waist is a good option.

Just because you’re a plus sized woman doesn’t mean you can’t be stylish and have to wear boring or black suits all the time.

For bottom-heavy women (pear shaped body type) your mission is to find a suit that fits on the top and the bottom. Aim to accentuate your torso and your neckline to bring the focus upwards. When shopping for a two piece, choose a top that’s a lighter color than the bottom.

Halter tops, scoop bottoms are some options. Do you have a booty or nice legs? Don’t be afraid to flaunt them!

Top-heavy women (inverted triangle body type), remind people that you have a nice waistline too. To do so, go with a vibrant color or busier pattern than the top. For extra bust support, look for underwire bra style tops and halters with thicker ties. When tying your tops, go tighter.

Try on several styles with someone who you trust will give you honest feedback. Don’t become discouraged.

Fit
Women should think about a good fit. When trying on suits ask yourself the following:

  • Do I feel comfortable?
  • Does this suit make me feel and look good?
  • Does this suit support me well?
  • Is there enough coverage?

The best swimsuit fit is snug, with no gapping fabric. Besides comfort, the perfect fit is also important. Maggie Kombogiannis, founder of Meli Beach says a swimsuit that is too small, digs into your skin and if it’s too lose, it won’t support you.

Fitting Tip: Swimwear should fit snugly, but not too tightly. Do the straps dig into your shoulders? Try a larger size. Do you see extra folds or wrinkles of your suit fabric on the torso? Try a size smaller.

What should women look for in a swimsuit?
Three attributes of good swimwear are performance, comfort, and fashion.

You spend a lot of time at the pool and at the beachside and you want a bathing suit that works just as hard as you do in the water. Selecting the appropriate swimsuit material can be overwhelming.

There are many options available so how do you know what to choose? The selection of swimsuit fabric ought to reflect your goals as a shopper: are you looking for the best fit, durability, stretch or all of the above in a suit? Your choice of swimwear material is vital to meeting your expectations.

Polyester swimsuits stretch, but not as much as Lycra suits. Therefore, I recommend choosing one size up when choosing polyester suits.

Lycra is a synthetic fiber known for its elasticity. Garments made with Lycra are breathable, comfortable, and lightweight. Because of Lycra’s form fitting nature, you’ll often find it used in women’s and men’s clothing.

Lycra dries quickly and is moisture wicking. Also, Lycra is bacteria resistant and blocks UV Rays. For example, garments that are made using Lycra include exercise clothing and leggings and swimsuits such as the Rage 1 Women’s Performance One Piece Swimsuit.

Fit and personal style are two things to consider. It also depends on your body type and lifestyle. Do you despise tan lines? Try a strapless style suit.

Want support for your bust? Avoid a strapless style suit. Find a one piece swimsuit.

Women should choose a fit that’s right for their body type and that suits their personality.

Should personal style dictate how you buy a swimsuit?
Just like any of the other pieces in your wardrobe, swimsuits should be approached the same way. Think about the clothes sitting in your closet right now. I’m sure you that you might have a few articles of clothing that you purchased because it looked good on the model.

Out of all the clothes in your wardrobe, you probably have a couple of go-to items. These clothes are your go-to clothes because they make you feel comfortable and you look good in them. The same goes for bathing suits. Avoid buying a suit because a swimsuit is popular or looks good on a model.

Fit and form are among the top things to consider. On the other hand, let’s say you love a suit and it fits with your personal style. Then, buy away.

Much like bras, when it comes to swimsuits, comfort and the right fit are important. Next time you search for a swimsuit, consider these fit tips before making the purchase. Find a suit that emphasizes your features.
